Summertime 2011 was a fairy tale. After I landed at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, I took a train to Edison, where I met Jeff Pesso, head of a company that employed foreign students through an exchange program.
Jeff was my supervisor while I was a lifeguard at swimming pools in the area. I worked mostly at a couple of swimming pools near a beautiful clubhouse. It had a library, and I was among the few who spent some of my days reading its books. During that summer, my small group of exchange students lived in a beautiful home in Edison. Among my roommates were other young people from the Czech Republic. When we wanted to venture beyond the small town, transportation was provided by Jeff’s company supervisors. I spent almost all of my free time exploring the surrounding area, whether sightseeing or shopping, so I had the opportunity to get to know much of New Jersey.
I remain grateful to have had the opportunity to travel to Edison — it allowed me to know the world as it is in reality and not only from library and school books. After the experiences in Scotland and Spain, my visit to Edison was another jigsaw puzzle piece for my self-development and building my mindset as a coach. I enjoyed working and living in Edison so much that it became one of my favorite places.
